Sweet or Sinister?

If you're like me, you love making vintage style journals in different themes, depending on your mood or the season.  Sometimes you may focus on shabby chic in soft sweet colors with lace. Other times you may be drawn to the mischievous, sinister dark side.  We're going to explore both in this course by mixing mediums in a common format for both journals, learning how to combine slow stitching with paper, thread, laces and textiles.  And...as always with a little grunge and Bohemian vibe.

Learn everything you need to know in this comprehensive course to make soft journals combined with slow stitching and mixed media.  ALL levels welcome!

Do I need to know how to sew to take this class?

Sewing experience is helpful but not absolutely necessary.   I will teach you how to slow stitch & some simple embroidery.  It's perfect for all levels including beginners!  *Machine sewing is optional*

Will there be resources?

Yes!  I am happy to give you links to all the resources I know and use myself, supporting businesses small and large.

What is slow stitching?

Simply put, it is sewing simple stitches with out much thought, direction or pattern.  It's actually very relaxing and meditative.

WHY HAS  SLOW STITCHING BECOME SO POPULAR?

This is something I've thought a lot about because it's not as though stitching and embroidery are a "new" craft...they have been around for 100's of years, however I believe we live in a time when the word "slow" is an attention grabber, when as a collective we may be going 100 miles an hour and the fact that we can do something slow makes us take pause. It's nice to think " oh maybe I can give myself permission to slow down and make something that brings me solace and joy".  This is a good thing and very appealing to all levels of crafters.

SO I hope to bring some of that solace and joy to YOU with techniques that you can apply to make a beautiful soft journal using fabrics, threads, laces and papers.  The lessons you'll learn from this course can be applied to many crafts and although the focus will be making a cluster collective journal, it can also be used as a jumping off point for mini works of fiber art, an eclectic patch for a pouch or tote, needle book or just a tactile beautiful piece of art!

I invite you to join this community of like minded artists and learn my techniques in this creative course no matter your skill level. Let us enjoy the process and slow down shall we?
